Who can be evaluated?

We perform independent evaluations of musculoskeletal injuries for injured workers referred by the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation, or by the injured worker's treating physician.

What is the purpose of the evaluation?

The purpose of this evaluation is to assess the injured worker's compensable injuries, determine whether maximum medical improvement has been reached, and assign impairment ratings, if applicable. Additional determinations may include the extent of the compensable injury, work status, return-to-work capabilities, and the presence or absence of disability.

How can an appointment be modified?

Any change to a scheduled appointment must be mutually agreed upon by the injured worker and Dr. Silmon. Appointment modifications will be considered only for valid scheduling conflicts or other legitimate circumstances.

What happens during the evaluation?

Dr. Sandra Silmon has received and reviewed the relevant medical records before the evaluation and will discuss those records with the injured worker as appropriate. She will then perform an injury-specific examination. This evaluation is conducted solely for independent medical assessment purposes and does not constitute a treating physician visit or establish a physician-patient relationship for the treatment of the injured worker.

Who requests these evaluations?

Requests for an evaluation may be submitted by the injured worker’s treating physician, the injured worker or the injured worker’s representative, or the insurance adjuster. Appointments are scheduled directly with Dr. Sandra Silmon.

What is the result of the evaluation?

A comprehensive report is prepared and distributed to all appropriate parties within seven business days following the evaluation. Recipients may include the injured worker, the injured worker’s representative, the treating physician, the insurance carrier, the insurance carrier’s representative, and the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation, as applicable.

What should injured workers do post-evaluation?

Any questions regarding the evaluation or its findings should be directed to the insurance carrier, the treating physician, or the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation, as appropriate.
